Electrical Installation at West Reservoir Centre, Hackney

JHP Electrical delivered a comprehensive electrical installation at West Reservoir Centre in Hackney — upgrading infrastructure, delivering the new café installation and coordinating works within a live leisure environment.

Background information

The West Reservoir Centre in Hackney is a historic watersports and leisure facility offering sailing, kayaking, open-water swimming, events and hospitality.

JHP Electrical Services was appointed by Blakedown Landscapes to deliver the electrical works as part of the centre’s refurbishment, including upgraded infrastructure within the main building and a complete installation for the new café and outdoor shower facilities.

The works involved replacing existing systems and upgrading electrical distribution to provide safe, reliable services across the site.

Project overview

The project was designed to provide modern, reliable electrical infrastructure across the refurbished West Reservoir Centre, including a complete installation for the new café and outdoor facilities.

JHP Electrical Services carried out the works between April 2025 and April 2026.

The installation included:

  • Temporary power and lighting
  • Strip-out of existing electrical installations
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Low-voltage distribution
  • Small power and general lighting
  • Data systems
  • Distribution equipment upgrades
  • Café sub-main, metering and distribution
  • Electrical supplies for commercial kitchen equipment
  • Extraction and air-conditioning supplies
  • Disabled alarm systems
  • Electrical works to associated outdoor areas
  • Testing, commissioning and certification

Working within a live leisure facility, JHP coordinated closely with Blakedown Landscapes, the architects and wider project team to minimise disruption and adapt the installation around the historic building and new café design.

Strategic approach

Careful planning and coordination were essential as the lake remained in use by open-water swimmers throughout the project. Changing room facilities were relocated at different stages of the works, and site health and safety arrangements had to be continually adapted to minimise risks to members of the public.

JHP worked closely with Blakedown Landscapes, the architects and wider project team to maintain safe access, minimise disruption and respond to evolving designs throughout the project.

The approach included:

  • Coordinating electrical works around the continued operation of the centre
  • Maintaining safe working areas for staff, visitors and swimmers
  • Working closely with architects and the wider project team on design changes
  • Delivering new distribution, lighting, power and data infrastructure
  • Completing the electrical installation for the new café and outdoor facilities
  • Testing, commissioning and certifying all completed installations

A key design feature within the new café was the use of exposed metal conduit for the lighting installation. With the ceiling beams left exposed, this provided a robust containment solution while creating a clean industrial finish that complemented the interior design.

Results and achievements

The project was completed between April 2025 and April 2026, within the agreed budget, with all electrical installations fully tested, commissioned and certified.

The completed works delivered upgraded electrical infrastructure across the changing rooms, offices, toilets and communal areas, alongside a complete commercial electrical installation for the new café.

The café is now fully operational, supported by new distribution, lighting, small power, data and specialist supplies for kitchen equipment, extraction, air conditioning and disabled alarm systems.

Client satisfaction

Blakedown Landscapes praised JHP Electrical Services for its communication, attention to detail, professional approach and quality of workmanship.  The successful project has also led to an ongoing working relationship between the two companies.

Conclusion

The West Reservoir Centre project demonstrates JHP Electrical Services’ experience in delivering complex commercial electrical installations across live leisure and hospitality environments.

Working closely with Blakedown Landscapes, architects and the wider project team, JHP delivered upgraded electrical infrastructure and the complete installation for the new café while adapting to design changes and minimising disruption.

With all works tested, commissioned and certified, the upgraded facilities are now fully operational, supporting an ongoing relationship with Blakedown Landscapes and showcasing JHP’s capabilities across leisure, hospitality and commercial refurbishment projects.
